Joining A Gym Or Football With Friends: Which Keeps A Man Healthier?

  • Men Health

joining a gymAs a man, you are probably constantly looking into finding out the best ways to stay fit. While everyone can agree that this is not an easy task, it can also be agreed upon that it is not as difficult as it may seem. One of the biggest questions that men have about this topic is whether or not it is more beneficial to join a gym or engage in physical activities like football with friends.

Let’s take a look at the two options to help you decide which one will work best for you:

Joining a Gym

While joining a gym can be a great investment for any man looking to be healthier, joining is only the first part of the equation. Many men struggle to get in the habit of going to the gym on a regular basis and some even end up never going at all.

If joining a gym is going to be helpful, there has to be self-discipline in place that ensures that you are going on a consistent basis. Working in small increments to build up the gym habit is generally best here, although you still will need to be very disciplined to keep with it.

Physical Activity With Friends

Engaging in physical activities and team sports with friends is a great option for men that are competitive but struggle with self-discipline. The problem with this, however, is that there can be a lot of inconsistencies in the amount of times you are able to engage in sports like football with friends.

Just as with the gym, there needs to be consistency in the amount of times that you play in order for this option to be most effective. If you have the ability to set up games three times a week, the fun factor associated with physical activity with friends makes it much more likely that you will attend on a regular basis.

The Final Word

At the end of the day, the option that works best for you will depend on how self-disciplined you are as well as the amount of games that you can actually organize with friends. Joining a gym is worthless if you cannot build up the discipline to go on a regular basis.

Similarly, engaging in sports with friends will not be as effective as actually going to the gym unless you can organize them on a consistent basis. If your goal is to remain as healthy as possible, the optimal scenario would be that you were able to do both.
